Drug Abuse Help Los Angeles California

Addiction Recovery Interventionist Chris Suchanek talks about drug abuse help:

One of the most popular and effective techniques used to treat drug abuse is cognitive-behavior therapy, or CBT. Originally developed by Aaron Beck in the 1950's CBT have been used to treat a vast array of patients including drug abuse. The basic premise of CBT is simply: the feelings that result as a consequence of some action are the direct result of your beliefs, these are reffered to as the ABC's of CBT. Okay, let look at this in a concrete example. If you are driving down the road and some one cuts in front of you in their car and forces you to slam on your brakes and spill the drink in your cup holder you will probably feel angry; this is because you expected the person driving the car that just cut in front of you to be a good drived, a natural and reasonable expectation. To put this in CBT language: the A-ction: the car cut in front of you leading to a series of event à the B-elief: you expected that this person should drive better à the C-onsequence: you were angry. Obviously in helping people who abuse drugs the ABC's get more complicated, but the relationships is the same your beliefs about an action lead to the consequent feelings.

"I don't think anyone believes that there is a time when they will need the services of an interventionist. You're confused as to who to turn to for help when the person you love is in trouble. The moment you meet Chris there is a subtle process that begins. He asks important questions, listens intently and quickly gets a grasp of your unique situation. He meets the family and friends involved in the intervention and gets them to focus on the task at hand and help put aside any unresolved feelings of anger or uncertainty..."
